"On the Boards"
Church leaders wished to transform their weathered facility into a center for community outreach ministries. Childcare and parenting classes, a soup kitchen, and an outdoor courtyard for family activities are some of the responses to local needs that will be serviced through the expansion of this campus.
Built in the early 1950's with only minor refurbishing, there was an immediate need to answer maintenance issues. This led to pursuing options for better usage of the building and grounds. The architectural solution includes an expansive gated courtyard doubling square footage for fellowship and overflow, a traditional steeple, and tower entry. The design strategy involves relocating hallways to provide direct entrance into the sanctuary, uncovering a center stained glass feature, new windows, and new surface finishes throughout. Future plans include a phase for other campus buildings: a fellowship hall, classrooms, and a gym.
Work on the Sanctuary was scheduled to commence in December 2004, with phasing to occur consecutively until completion.
