Samuel B. Benavides, AIA
Samuel B. Benavides, AIA , is the owner and principal architect of Benavides Design Group, of Monterey , California . Sam specializes in both commercial and residential design, with a profound dedication for design excellence and integrity. He is known for his strong team approach and finesse to project planning and management.
Prior to starting his own architecture firm, Sam worked as Project Manager/Architect for several firms, including Thompson Architectural Group and Lew & Patnaude Architects in Fresno , CA , and Eric Miller Architects in Pacific Grove , CA . Over his 20-year career, Sam has perfected his design and project management skills on dozens of projects, including a 9,000 s.f. renovation for the Templeton Portfolio Advisory in Carmel and an addition and renovation of the Cypress Coast Subaru car dealership in Seaside . Other significant projects included participation in construction document development for a new seven-story classroom building at Fresno State University, a new state-of-the-art cancer facility, also in Fresno, and the Salinas Rodeo Complex grandstand structure in Salinas, CA. Sam has been a licensed architect since 1994.
Before committing to a career in architecture, Sam worked several years in construction – this has given him a distinct advantage over other design firms in that he is sympathetic to the construction process. Active in his community, Sam served on the Peninsula Adventist School Board for four years, three of which were as school board chairman. He graduated from Andrews University , in Berrien Springs , MI , with a Bachelor of Architecture and has been a member of the American Institute of Architects since 1992.
